The WAHM Connection
Work at Home Moms (WAHMS) and The Kids they
Love
You work at home, you have kids. You love your
work, you love your kids. Keeping a balance
between the two is harder than many people think. Women
working outside the home think work at home moms
(wahms)
have it made - but wahms know that's not the full
picture. Separating work form family life, space
and time is harder than imagined. You never really get to "walk
away" from work --because it's always right there with
the laundry, the kids, the dishes and the homework.
Keeping little ones entertained, engaged and with you
while you make productive headway on your home business or
direct sales work can be a blessing. No one is asking for
kids to be ignored or neglected - but rather stimulated and
close by!

Keeping Kids Busy
While You Work at Home |

Activities for your
kids while on the phone:
1. Keep a box of special toys that only come out when you are
ready to make a contact. Your children will actually be excited
for you to be on the phone when they see this special box come
out.
2. Have an age appropriate craft ready to do. For a child under
3, put them in their high chair and allow them to paint with
water and a watercolor brush. For an older child, play dough,
watercolors and preschool craft sets work great!
3. Put together a bag or briefcase with a play phone, old
catalogs, pencils, old order forms, a calculator and any other
"office equipment" that is age appropriate so that they can do
their "business" while you do yours.
For those of you who live in warm weather climates, who have the
opportunity to move your business outdoors, here are some
outdoor ideas. In this day of portable phones, there is no
reason why you can't make your contacts, while your children are
enjoying the following activities:
1.Bubble Blowing - use spill proof containers or this fun will
be over too
quickly.
2. Painting the Sidewalk - use water in plastic cups and
watercolor paintbrushes.
3. Washing Bikes - give them a bucket with soapy water and some
old rags. You can hose them off together when you are off the
phone.
4. Scavenger Hunt - verbally give them items to find within eye
sight while
you make a call.
5. Gardening - give them their own little patch of dirt to till
with
child-size garden tools. You can plant seeds together when you
are finished with your call.
