Getting OUT of Your Home is GOOD When You Work at Home
When you work at home, getting out of your home is good for you, your productivity, as well as your mind and soul. There are times when you work at home and feel completely unmotivated. You can feel unmotivated working in an office too, but there you have people watching you and holding you accountable, forcing you to trudge through the day until it is over. When you work at home there is the overriding sense that you should continue to stay at your desk and work as much as possible, since overtime is not really an option. However, for the sake of your work and sanity you should leave your home during the day. When you work in an office, your break time and lunch times are spent outside of your office or cubicle. This should be integrated into your work at home business as well. When you are unmotivated, your daily goals seem to run far away from you. By taking the time out of your day to leave your home, you can gain energy and motivation that otherwise would dwindle. Make a single goal at a time. This will help your mind to focus more because instead of taking on a large list of things, you only have to focus on one goal at a time. Your mind will start to lag if you do not break for ten minutes each hour or periodic two minute breaks. These will rejuvenate your mind. Stretching, drinking water, and stepping outside to soak in two minutes of sun will fill your mind with vitamin D and better circulation. To ensure that you don’t get caught up in the work, use a reminder. If you have an online calendar, use it to email yourself a reminder to take a break. These reminders can be used for the ten minute breaks, two minute breaks outside, and lunch. Some email accounts such as g-mail will allow you to create pop up reminders which will interrupt what you are doing with a small box on your screen reminding you to take a break. This method will help you to work without staring at the clock. Working on the computer for long periods of time without breaking is bad for your eyes as well as hands so stepping outside of the house for short errands can serve as great breaks. Work these short errands into your schedule such as walking to check the mail, picking up the children, and walking the dog. When you break to eat lunch, eat it outside. Drive to the nearest market or deli to pick something up, or if you are eating food from home, take it outside to a local park, stop by a coffee shop, or sit on your porch to enjoy. When you take your outside breaks walk around or jog. Incorporate an exercise routine into your breaks so that your body is healthier and your mind is happier, leaving you with more productivity away from the “office”. When you work at home you are very cut off socially. By getting out of your house when you take your breaks, you will continue to see other people and clear your mind.
