Are You Really Ready to Work for Yourself?
There are a lot of appealing things about being a mom with a home business. Most importantly, you get to be home with your kids. No more having to beg the boss for time off when little Johnny has a sore throat and can't go to daycare. No more trying to claw your way up the corporate ladder, compete for recognition, prove that you're deserving of a raise this year. When you are your own boss, you can achieve whatever you want.Or can you really? A lot of women who start out with big dreams of owning their own businesses end up crashing and burning within the first five years... Some never make it past the first year of working for themselves! Most of the time, these business disasters could have been prevented. These women only needed to take the time to ask themselves the tough questions before starting their businesses. Are you really ready to work for yourself? Here are some questions to help you evaluate if you really have what it takes to be your own boss. First of all, do you have expertise in an area that can be transformed into a business? It might be a profession, a hobby, or a trade that you've learned. To be a successful business owner, you need a skill that people will be willing to pay you for. If you don't have that, put the brakes on your business idea right now and learn how to do something, or to create something, that will earn a viable income as a business. Now that you've established that you can earn a living from what you want to do, the next question is... how are you at planning and organizing? Following a schedule you set for yourself? When the business is all yours, there is no one who will remind of what needs to be done next, or to plan your work for you. It's all you. Being able to plan, organize and follow a schedule is something that every successful home business owner must be able to do. Here is the big question that most new business owners overlook – what will you do if your business fails? It's possible that you could lose a lot of money and end up with nothing to show for it. Do you have the finances to handle that? How do you normally handle failure – get up and try again, or regret ever trying in the first place? Decide what you will do right now if your new business falls apart in the next year. If you don't like what that looks like, starting a home business may not be the right move for you. There is a lot more to working for yourself than having the freedom of working from home. If you're not ready to make the commitment to work for yourself, there are plenty of other work at home options you can look at. <<< back to more Helpful WAHM Tips and Articles
